The conference was a success. It involved over 850 participants from 75 Russian cities and the countries of the former Soviet Union - Armenia, Georgia, Belorussia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Estonia (70% of the participants). Over 250 people (30%) from 30 organizations of Moscow and Moscow regions participated in the conference. Clinicians (75%), microbiologists (16%) and epidemiologists (3%) represented the auditorium of the conference.

Overall, 46 lectures were given by 19 foreign and 15 Russian speakers. Foreign speakers have given 24 lectures and 22 were given by Russian. 89 abstracts (44% from sent) were published in the book of abstracts. The authors of 32 abstracts participated in the poster session. Despite the time of vocations, the interest shown by clinicians, microbiologists and medical organizations to the conference was extremely high.

To draw the conclusion we may say that every year there is an increase in the number of the participants of the conference of IACMAC and this fact has become a constant tradition. To compare with the first conference held in 1998, the number of the participants has doubled. Taking into consideration the wishes of the participants for the future conference, the chair of IACMC decided to hold the next conference "Antimicrobial Therapy" on June 4th-6th 2002 in Moscow.

Among the topics to be covered at the next conference are the usage of antimicrobials, antivirals, and antifungals. Special attention will be paid to clinical practice and in particular to acute pancreatitis, the skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted diseases.
