The Interregional Association for Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IACMAC)
IACMAC is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of research and education in the fields of clinical microbiology and antimicrobial chemotherapy.
IACMAC was founded in 1997 by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Prof. Leonid S. Stratchounsky through collaborative links amongst microbiologists from different Russian cities which have been established previously when the first multicenter microbiological studies were carried out. Now IACMAC includes over 1300 members from 48 regions of Russia. IACMAC is currently headed by Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobial Resistance, Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences Roman S. Kozlov and works in a close cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and international societies on clinical microbiology and antimicrobial resistance.
IACMAC is affiliated to the International Society of Chemotherapy (ISC) since 1997, Federation of the European Societies for Chemotherapy and for Infection (FESCI) since 1997 and The Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) since 2001, works in collaboration with WHO, the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics (APUA), the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and the European Commission.
IACMAC has established programs of regional and interregional antibiotic resistance monitoring (RosNet) and now is developing plans for expansion of these programs onto national level.
IACMAC publishes journals, methodical literature and provides informational support for Association members. The official publication “Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy” (CMAC) is published quarterly and is distributed free of charge among the members of IACMAC as well as medical institutions and libraries.
IACMAC holds scientific conferences, supports postgraduate education and teaching, collaborates in research projects and professional matters.
