Multicenter surveillance study on antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial pathogens (MARATHON)

The aim of the study is a long-term monitoring of antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial and community-acquired pathogens (bacteria and fungi) in hospitalized patients in multi-speciality hospitals in various regions of Russia.

Multi-central prospective microbiological study “MARATHON” has been conducted since 2011. In the period from 01.01.2018 up to 31.12.2018 the pathogens isolated from patients have been collected (both nosocomial and community-acquired infections) in the context of MARATHON-2018 study.

Under conditions of the extreme spread of multi-, extremely-, panresistant pathogens, the results of regular and long-term monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in hospitalized patients are necessary for development of the modern guidelines on antimicrobial therapy, hospital formulary, infection control.
