StEnt study of the antibiotic resistance in gram-positive bacteria
StEnt is a prospective study of epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial clinical strains of staphylococci and enterococci.
Since 1997 23 centers in 14 cities and towns of Russia became participants of the study. A total of 451 Staphylococcus spp. and 160 Enterococcus spp. strains were collected by the end of December 1998. The strains collection is currently going on. Antimicrobial sensitivity testing of the collected strains by the agar dilution method to antibiotics most commonly used in the treatment of staphylococcal and enterococcal infections will be performed in 1999.
